reed.co.uk Short Film Competition winners - where are they now

reed.co.uk Short Film Competition winners - where are they now by Michael Cheary So the time has come, and we can finally  reveal the winners of the reed.co.uk Short Film Competition 2014…12  filmmakers  made this year’s shortlist and are on their way to global mega stardom and critical acclaim (or at the very least, to make some rather nice adverts). There could, however,  only be one winner.  With a three minute deadline for time, and a theme of Family Business, it was director Rhys Edwards film A Good Bitch that took home the Grand Prix prize. For Rhys and many of the  writers and directors of the shorts, their career in the film industry is just beginning. But what’s happened to the previous winners of the award, and how have their careers changed as a result? Here’s where some of them are now…2013 winner â€" ‘Ambition’ themeMichael O’Kelly’s film ‘The Runner’, a mockumentary style look at life for a runner on the set of Call The Midwife, won both the main prize and the people’s choice award in 2013.And althoug h it’s only been a short time since he won, his career already has gone from strength to strength as a result.O’Kelly admitted ‘Winning the  reed.co.uk  Short Film Competition meant I was taken seriously as a filmmaker. Ive since been commissioned to produce and direct small projects for BBC comedy, managed a documentary on clown doctors and Im producing a comedy web series The Incidentals’.2012 winner â€" ‘The Boss’ theme2012’s Grand Prix Winner was The Boss, directed by Alex Emslie. The film’s tagline was ‘One 9-to-5er turns to office supplies to exact revenge on her boss’. Think classic Kung-Fu movie meets The Office, with added paper clips. The Boss became a smash hit on Vimeo and racked up over a quarter of a million views, featuring on the front page of Yahoo in Japan.Alex has gone on to direct for clients including Argos and Skype, and is currently working on a feature script.2011 winner â€" ‘Monday’ themeSince winning the reed.co.uk Short Film  Competit ion in 2011 with their short epic Spread the Word, a lot has changed for Ben Ridolfi and Phil Derham. Not only did the competition cement a long term creative bond for the duo, but it also gave them the confidence to pursue their dreams. They now run their own successful production company Park District, which was founded in 2012, producing everything from more theatrical shorts to fitness videos and promos for L’Oreal and Cosmopolitan.2010 winner â€" ‘The Workplace’ themeOscar Sharps short film, ‘Sign Language’, went on to win the Virgin Media Shorts film competition in 2010.It was screened in 200 cinemas nationwide, nominated for a BIFA, reached the final 15 for a BAFTA, was selected for festivals, including Aspen and Palm Springs, and named among The Best Of YouTube by YouTube. In 2012, Oscar won a Fulbright scholarship to study film at New York UniversityJonethan Brooks Mat LarocheIts isnt just Grand Prix winners that go on to bigger and better things.Having won the 201 2 Judges Commendation Award and the 2011 Peoples Choice Award for The Devils Apricot and Mondays A Fine Day respectively, CHIPS (as theyre collectively known) went on to create reed.co.uks hugely successful  TV advertising campaigns, not to mention  Britain’s best performing You Tube campaign ever. They are now signed to Paul Weilands company, Mistress Films, have worked with Volvo, Mazda, Allinson and won a British Arrow award for their innovative Save The Children campaign.Want to learn more about the reed.co.uk Short Film Awards? Maximize Your Time By Outsourcing - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Maximize Your Time By Outsourcing - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career I’m updating a book I wrote a few years ago that includes hundreds of resources. While it’s not hard to go through the list to check which are still valid and which aren’t, the task is long and tedious. My time is better spent on activities that directly earn income, which is why I gave the task to my virtual assistant. Many home and small business owners don’t feel they can afford to hire virtual support, when in fact, they can’t afford not to. Business owners make more when they focus on the activities that make money. If you can make $50 an hour providing your service, it makes more sense to pay $15 or $20 an hour to have a virtual assistant take care of busy work, while you spend your time making money. Using a VA nets money, while doing the busy work doesn’t do anything but waste your time. You don’t have to delegate all your business tasks right away. Start with tasks that you don’t enjoy or aren’t very good at. As you get used to relinquishing control, you can delegate more work to virtual support people. Here is a list of tasks you can outsource. Tasks that you aren’t good at. Tasks you don’t enjoy. Administrative duties such as email, phone calls, appointment setting, transcription, research, etc. Technical duties such as website set-up and maintenance. Marketing tasks, such as social media and publicity. Writing tasks including articles, blog posts, ad copy, reports, etc. Creating audio or video materials. Money management such as bookkeeping and billing. Outsourcing. Yes, you can hire someone to be in charge of finding and managing virtual support help. Outsourcing work doesn’t mean you want to relinquish total control. While you want to trust the people you work with, you still want to keep an eye on what they’re doing. I once received a shocking email from a business and a few minutes later, the owner emailed an apology indicating the first email was sent by an assistant. Your goal is to find quality, conscientious people, provide them with clear instructions on what you need them to do, and screen their work without micromanaging. Doing so will give you more time to do what you do best and enjoy the most, while still taking care of all the tasks required in running a business.

5 Steps to Get More Out of Your Work Day

5 Steps to Get More Out of Your Work Day 5-Tricks to Increase your Productivity Many people start their day with optimal energy, but their efforts wane as the day progresses. It’s difficult to sustain productivity for anyone, but there are hacks to help you maintain top efficiency throughout the day. I spoke with serial entrepreneur Damon Burton, consultant and President of SEO National and UtahSites, to learn the tricks that fueled his success. What do you think is the most important habit to be more productive? I tell everyone who will listen to set a morning routine. Start by waking up at the same time every day. Designate all the activities that you will complete during the morning hours and make sure to do them every day. Pretty soon, you will notice your morning routine is already established, and it will be hard to deviate from it. Do you need to plan the entire day? I believe things only happen when you make them happen. So, for me, starting out each day by laying out my to-do list, including checking my email, going through paperwork and making phone calls. I also create lists so I can cross things off as I go. What about taking on new projects? This is where it is so important to know yourself. I try very hard to only accept tasks and projects that fall within my skillset, experience, and expertise. Focusing on things within your field of interest will squeeze your creative juices and provide fulfillment but doing things that don’t match your abilities can be frustrating and cause you to stagnate. You’ve also talked about the importance of taking a break. Everybody needs time to refresh but taking time off doesn’t mean that you need to be idle. You can take a break from your normal work and still be productive by reading, listening to your favorite music, or doing volunteer work. What else do you recommend to be more productive? The end of the day should also follow a routine, such as bonding with your family. Wrap up emails, finish phone calls, and clean up your desk. Then leave work at work and focus on relationships, personal time, and getting adequate rest for the next day. Damon is right! As you establish healthy habits and routines, you’re setting yourself up to be more and more efficient on the job and more content in other areas of your life.
